Aberdare National Park

Wildlife Highlights
Rare Sightings: While the park is home to all of the Big Five, seeing all five species is exceptionally rare. Elephant and buffalo sightings are almost guaranteed, while black rhino, lion, and leopard sightings are less common. Other wildlife, such as bushbuck and defassa waterbuck, are very common.

Forest Primates: The park is a refuge for various forest primates, including black-and-white colobus monkeys and Sykes’ monkeys. Nocturnal animals like the giant forest hog and large-spotted genet often visit the waterholes at night. The park is also home to the shy and beautiful bongo antelope, with decreasing numbers.

Best Time for Wildlife Viewing
Wildlife viewing is good throughout the year, with the driest and best months being from June to September and December to February. Heavy rain can occur year-round, but it usually doesn’t interfere with safaris when staying at a tree hotel.
